Oh, Just Get Lost!

sharon_bill_bonneville
Make hay while the sun shines. One of the joys of being self employed is that now and again you can just get lost! We needed to go to the Post Office and by some strange twist of fate got very lost on the return journey… accidentally… on purpose…

The fact that we went to run errands on the motorbike may have had some influence upon the fact that we ended up over twenty miles out of our way. I don't teach so much during the summer holiday and so being off timetable means that we can seize the moment and catch up on work later. The British sunshine is notoriously patchy and so we made the most of the good weather. Also all of our children are back home for the time being and it's a very busy house. It was good to just escape away and spend some time with my husband. It's so easy to forget that it was the two of us before there ever were the children (obvious as that sounds.)

I can also justify the trip (I'm getting good at this!!) because I think that it's important for the children to realise that I don't need to live my life through them and that, now they're older and will be leaving/living lives of their own, they don't need to be looking over their shoulder wondering if I'm clinging on or am sad and lonely - I'm busy having a good time!

I realise that I've totally skewed the proper meaning of the proverb "Make hay while the sun shines" because this is about working while you can - not skiving and riding off into the horizon just because the sun is shining. If you have a kind disposition you'll overlook my misinterpretation!
